Jirdarup Bushland in Kensington is a typical Jarrah-Banksia woodland on Bassendean sands with a rich understorey. The precinct comprises three distinct areas – Kensington Bushland Reserve (Bush Forever Site No. 048), George Street Reserve and the Kent Street sandpit.
How did this significant bushland, described by Professor Kingsley Dixon as … “the most pristine and highest quality banksia woodland remaining in inner Perth”, escape development?
Dr Lesley van Schoubroeck’s presentation will discuss the history of its past, its botanical treasures and the future of the area. Lesley is the author of the 2023 publication “Jirdarup Bushland and the Friends who care for it” that also recognises the contribution and efforts of the Friends of Jirdarup management group.
