Perth Branch June General Meeting featuring a Retrospective on Bush Forever by Bronwen Keighery
13 June @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Released in 2000, Bush Forever is a strategic plan for the conservation of bushland within the Swan Coastal Plain portion of the Perth Metropolitan Region. Developed in response to the increasing pressures and threats to the region’s natural environment, the aim was to secure the long-term conservation of high-quality bushland. By some measures Bush Forever has been a real success. A 2021 audit of the plan found that 99% of the original regionally-significant bushland remained intact. However, in over 20 years the plan has not yet been fully implemented.
Given that we are close to having the plan fully realise its original intent, it’s an ideal time to take a retrospective look and chart ways for its completion. Local botanist, Bronwen Keighery, has been involved with Bush Forever from its inception and has rare insights into both its successes and limitations. On Tuesday evening, 13 June, at the Palms Community Centre, Subiaco, Bronwen will be providing us with that retrospective on Bush Forever and what lays ahead. Her talk is part of a series on Perth’s urban bushland presented by the Perth Branch of the Wildflower Society. It will be sure to interest those who value our precious bushland reserves.
Doors open at 7.45 pm for an 8 pm start with a $3 donation giving you entry into the night’s door prize. All are welcome.
The Wildflower Society uses its independent technical knowledge of WA’s wildflowers to help you better know, grow, enjoy and conserve the wildflowers of Western Australia.
