21 March, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Wadandi Track, Margaret River
Meet at corner of Tunbridge Street and Railway Terrace – parking off Tunbridge Street

All welcome

John will demonstrate various techniques he uses for woody weed control. He has experience with weed control in the South West but also in the north of WA.

John’s bio in his words:

“A Ludlow and Busselton boy growing up in Ludlow’s forests in the 50s, in a rich but poor Polish family, was always going to be with people or nature, so 15 years of helping fix up the environment followed 30 years of psychology in Western Australia schools from the Pilbara to the South West.

An inventive streak emanating from my mechanic father resulted in many inventions and a stint on the New Inventors. That inventiveness and psychology was applied to solving problem gambling, losing fishing lures, killing fish humanely, fighting woody weeds and detecting varroa mite in honey bees, and even new design stubby holders.

Control of weeds starts with detection and one of my most significant contributions to the wide-area weed control is the detection of weeds from ultra-high aerial resolution images using Machine Learning. The next step in controlling weeds – putting pure herbicide in a capsule to kill woody weeds has made things safer for both humans and the environment.

After thirty years of helping humans, I have changed course to devote the time left to Nature. Oh, and barra fishing, and bees, and …… ”
