Growing Locals

One of the main advocates for growing only local flora is Robert Powell together with his wife Jane Emberson.

They published their ideas in a book published in 1996:
Growing locals : gardening with local plants in Perth / by Robert Powell & Jane Emberson with assistance from Vanda Longman. Western Australian Naturalists’ Club.

This book has been republished with an extensive list of native plants of the Perth Metropolitan Region (over 1,800) and their distribution, compiled by Greg Keighery, Vanda Longman & Barbara Rye.

Although concentrating on the cultivation of local Australian plant species in Perth, the principles apply to any gardening endeavour.
