‘Spring into Armadale’ ramble: Harrisdale Swamp reserve, Harrisdale
6 November, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am
The Armadale region is blessed with numerous large bush reserves, many of them cared for by local volunteers.
Harrisdale Swamp reserve (Bush Forever Site 253) is a stunning reserve with some outstanding features still in pristine condition.
Harrisdale Swamp is 98.4 ha of parkland managed by Parks & Wildlife Service as part of the Jandakot Regional Park. The areas of Banksia Woodland, Shrubland and Paperbarks that fringe the wetland contain a very large number of species of native vegetation. It is habitat for Quenda and kangaroos, many species of birds, lizards and frogs, and innumerable species of invertebrates. Every month there are numerous different native species flowering in a constantly changing mosaic which is at its peak in Spring.
We will complete a circuit that takes us to the edge of the swamp where there are many small ephemeral species.
Meet at Carey College car park, Wright Road, Harrisdale. Park near the child care centre close to Wright Road. We will cross Wright Road to go into the reserve through a gap gate. Mostly limestone tracks with soft sand in some areas.
Bring water and snacks. Wear suitable clothing and stout shoes.
The Wildflower Society uses its independent technical knowledge of WA’s wildflowers to help you better know, grow, enjoy and conserve the wildflowers of Western Australia.
