This talk inspired by our current work with the Wildflower Society Plant Survey Program in Julimar Conservation Park. Julimar is part of the Northern Jarrah Forest Bioregion, and we compare and contrast the wetlands of the Northern Jarrah Forest and the Swan Coastal Plain Bioregions. Using the Biodiversity Audit in 2008 as a base we compare 2008 listings of wetland types in the bioregions with our current understanding of these wetlands. In particular we show that the broad valley floors on the eastern margins, the high rainfall scarp valleys contribute greatly to plant biodiversity of the Jarrah Forest. We also illustrate that many poorly documented wetlands of the Northern Jarrah Forest–seeps, clay and sand basin wetlands and dampland flats, contribute greatly to species richness in the Forest as they contain many unique species and taxa. We finally suggest that the Southwest’s unique claypans likened to the biodiverse Vernal Pools (California)and Vleis (South Africa) be awarded their own unique name.
