Perth Branch June Meeting Featuring Heidi Nistelberger
8 June, 2021 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
The Perth Branch will be holding our next General Meeting at the Subiaco Community Centre on Tuesday 8 June. Doors open at 7.45 pm for an 8 pm start. The $3 door donation gets you entry into the night’s door prize.
This month we will be hosting a talk by Dr Heidi Nistelberger, a geneticist at the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions. Biogeographical research on Parrot Bush (Banksia sessilis, formerly Dryandra sessilis), shows distinct differences depending on where it grows – in the hills or on the coastal plain. Intriguingly, the Parrot Bush genome tells us that these differences coincide with the formation of Swan Coastal Plain, about three million years ago. For other implications of this genetic tale, you will have to hear Heidi talk on the topic his coming Tuesday, 8 June, at the Subiaco Community Centre.
The Wildflower Society uses its independent technical knowledge of WA’s wildflowers to help you better know, grow, enjoy and conserve the wildflowers of Western Australia.
