Ken Patterson: Friends of Piesse Brook
Over 20 years ago, a resident and her husband living close to the Schipp Road Reserve, Piesse Brook and the adjoining Kalamunda National Park, realised that unless they were to do something to address the vast growth of weeds growing in these places, there would be no change.
So began the formation of the Friends of Piesse Brook, a group that has continued ever since to fight a war against the invasive weeds. The results of their dedication and hard work of this group is now to see this vast area relatively free of weeds.
The members enjoy enormous satisfaction to witness the changes that have occurred during the group’s existence and to know that they have contributed to this success. It is an absolute joy to now be able to walk the many trails through the reserve to view the wonder at the species diversity and the colour of the slopes during spring – a joy they share with the many other visitors to the area.
