Long-term recovery of kwongan heath and Banksia woodlands after mining: a regional comparison

Regional descriptions of patterns of vegetation recovery after restoration are limited and yet, are necessary to assess progress, evaluate management practices, and understand underlying ecological processes.

Dr Fiamma Riviera’s team compared the functional vegetation recovery of four mine sites in southwest Western Australia, spanning kwongan heath at Eneabba to Banksia woodland in Perth. The research and this presentation shows that functional aspects of vegetation recovery can better inform restoration assessment.

Fiamma’s presentation will be the feature of the Perth Branch’s General Meeting on Tuesday evening, 10 May, at the Subiaco Community Centre.
