Sophie Xiang:  My Wildflower Journey

Sophie is an enthusiastic self-taught photographer who uses the camera function of her mobile phone. Her wildflower journey started some three years ago with no photography or botanical background. Since then, she has gained much knowledge on both fronts and has fallen deeply in love with the beauty of our Western Australian flora.

Her wildflower enthusiasm has inspired her to travel to many places and meet many like-minded people and says that she is very fortunate to find her “happy soul place”.

As well as rising to the challenge of increasing her botanical knowledge and improving her photography skills, Sophie uses the flower images to convey the exciting smell of the bushland, the intriguing cycle of life, and to portray the flower’s unique personality.

Photographing our native flora and showcasing them is her passion and has enjoyed doing workshops, displaying them at art exhibitions and her work is widely shared on social media, science research and artists’ references.

Sophie enjoys the simplicity and convenience of phone photography and has picked up many tips along her journey and is happy to share them to show how to get the best out of your phone camera.
