About Peter Howe:
Born in Busselton in 1978, and growing up on a farm, I was able to see and learn about nature from a young age, and from 1983-1998 (ages 4 – 20) saw Western Australia in ultra-HD wide screen with full surround sound, travelling (and later working) with the family business across the length and breadth of WA, learning about the world and nature by immersion. Up until the age of 16, all of my schooling was done outside the classroom, a lot of it while travelling.
Studied for Bachelor of Science in Industrial Chemistry and Batchelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering at Curtin University from 1998 – 2003.
Winner of 2004 Science and Innovation Award for Young People in Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (Western Australian Winner).
DBCA licensed (commercial) seed collector since 2009.
Employed as Admin Assistant at Geographe Community Landcare Nursery in 2013, promoted to Assistant Coordinator in 2014, promoted to Acting Coordinator in Jan 2023, and Coordinator in July 2023.
Studied for Bachelor of Science Honours in Biological Science 2021-2022 at Murdoch University researching Nitrogen fixing bacteria on WA native legume hosts.
A Gardening Australia segment that discusses Peter’s work (16th June 2023)
The Wildflower Society uses its independent technical knowledge of WA’s wildflowers to help you better know, grow, enjoy and conserve the wildflowers of Western Australia.
