Plants, Landscapes and Woodlands – All in the Life of Brian

11 September, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Join the Perth Branch on Tuesday 11 September for a presentation from Brian Moyle on ‘Plants, Landscapes and Woodlands – All in the Life of Brian’. This talk is part of the Wildflower Society Perth Branch’s 2018 program focusing on how prominent wildflower enthusiasts became became involved with wildflowers.

Brian Moyle trained as an industrial chemist and became an expert in refining sugar. He came to Western Australia to work at, and run, the CSR Sugar Refinery in Mosman Park. With an interest in growing plants Brian did a Horticultural Diploma and was introduced to wildflowers. This lead to three decades working with the Society and over the last two decades Brian advocating for the landscapes of the Banded Ironstone Ranges of the Goldfields, especially the Helena and Aurora Ranges. Brian is also involved in promoting sustainable use, via tourism, for the rangelands, Great Western Woodlands and the Banded Ironstone Ranges.

Join us to hear how Brian went from being mildly interested in the native plants around the refinery, became president of the Wildflower Society and a key champion of the Helena and Aurora Ranges.

Meetings of the Perth Branch of the Society are held on the second Tuesday of each month in the Subiaco Community Centre across the road from Crossways Shopping centre in Bagot Road. Doors open at 7.45pm and the meeting begins at 8pm. Supper is served after the talk and everyone is eligible for the night’s door prize. You do not need to be a member of the Society to attend, entry requiring a $2 door donation.
