Fundraising with Garage Sale Trail

“Keep calm and smell the flowers” = volunteers from the Murdoch Branch  took part this year in the national Garage Sale Trail event,  held on 22 October 2016. The aim was to raise funds for the Wildflower Society of Western Australia (Murdoch Branch) and boost the work we do to promote, inform the public and protect our precious bushland. The sale was organized by Branch Committee member Dr Christina Birnbaum with help from Dr Eddy Wajon, Dr Alex George, Pawel Waryszak (Branch President), Ross Young and Ben Sims (Branch Vice-President).

We registered the sale online on the official Garage Sale Trail page, it was free and we received an official start-up pack with flyers and posters to promote the Sale. The event was picked up by media and ABC 720’s “Roots and Shoots” show interviewed us about our Sale while we were doing it.

The radio show further attracted a few more people to the Sale. We received generous plant donations from Australian Native Nursery (thanks to Nancy Scade), Derek and Hazel Cusick and Hazel Dempster (Northern Suburbs Branch). Our plants ‘sold like hot-cakes’ and accounted for most of the proceeds of the sale. Eddy Wajon sold his books and calendars and Alex George sold his book “Swanning around Perth” + Pawel was attracting new customers with a smell of sausage sizzle.

The sale was a fun event and we raised $580 dollars for the branch!!!

We truly recommend that other Branches seriously consider raising funds this way! We are planning to do so next year again. Stay Tuned!
